Hi you Guys and Gals- recently, Anthology signed up for Volunteermatch.org, a volunteer referral site. Here is a copy of the message I am sending to potentially interested volunteers, and I thought I would post it here as well-

Thank you for your interest in supporting Anthology. We manage several events that can always use volunteers (listed below) and I have tried to list the type of volunteer work we are in need of. Because of the regional nature of our volunteer needs, if you are outside the Phoenix, AZ area, we encourage you to consider visiting http://www.poetryslam.com, a national poetry slam organization that can steer you to volunteer opportunities in your area.

Please feel free to email me, Bob Nelson, at bob@anthology.org if you would be interested in helping Anthology with one of the following opportunities-

Weekly Events:

Essenzaslam Poetry Slam (Mesa, AZ- Thursday Nights 8P-10:30P):
Someone to keep score. During the poetry slam, the poet's performances are scored, and those scores are added up to determine the winner.
Someone to keep time. During the poetry slam, the poets have a time limit on each performance.
To sign up for one of these events, send me (bob@anthology.org) an email, I have a schedule of when volunteers are where, so we don't overlap and have too many volunteers at one event and too few at another.

Monthly Events

The Greater Phoenix Poetry Slam (Phoenix, AZ- Last Wednesday of each month 8P-10:30P):
Someone to keep score. During the poetry slam, the poet's performances are scored, and those scores are added up to determine the winner.
Someone to keep time. During the poetry slam, the poets have a time limit on each performance.
Someone to work at the Merchandise Table. During the slam, attendees may purchase merchandise by the poets or the organizaztion.
Someone to work the door. The event has a cover charge, and someone is needed to welcome guests and collect the cover charge.
To sign up for one of these events, send me (bob@anthology.org) an email, I have a schedule of when volunteers are where, so we don't overlap and have too many volunteers at one event and too few at another.

Larger Events
The Cthulhu Beach Party (Phoenix, AZ- August 2006)
Someone to work at the Merchandise Table. During the event, attendees may purchase merchandise by the poets or the organizaztion.
Someone to work the door. The event has a cover charge, and someone is needed to welcome guests and collect the cover charge.

The Anthology Phoenix Spoken Word Invitational (Phoenix, AZ- October 19th-21st, 2006)
This event is a three day festival, and we'll need volunteers for many, many, tasks.

Volunteer Opportunities outside of Events

A-Team members- This is the equivalent of a "Street Team". You could be handing out Anthology Flyers at various events in the Phoenix area, or taking flyers to local music stores or book stores in your area. To sign up for this, send me (bob@anthology.org) an email, you will be added to an email list to receive notification of upcoming events so you can decide if you want to work that particular event.

These opportunities are more committed than the above, and we have drawn up actual descriptions and posted them as PDF's online at http://www.anthology.org/volunteers.html.

Youth Coordinator- This Coordinator would manage Anthology Youth Events such as VOY as wel as act as Anthology’s
coordinator for libraries and teachers looking to incorporate poetry into their itineraries.
Merchandise Coordinator- This Coordinator would manage Anthology’s efforts to sell merchandise at both online outlets and retail
locations.
Membership Coordinator- This Coordinator would manage Anthology’s membership process, tracking new memberships, membership
fulfillment and renewal of memberships.
Promotion Coordinator- This Coordinator would manage Anthology’s promotional and print material efforts, including the
organization’s web site.
A- Team Coordinator- This Coordinator would solicit individuals to promote Anthology events through such activities as handing out
flyers at events, posting flyers at Colleges and other active activities.

To sign up for one of these events, send me (bob@anthology.org) an email, we will have to schedule a meeting time and talk about the position, and make sure that you are comfortable with the requirements. The meeting will be myself and one Anthology Board Member.

Thank you again for your interest in Anthology, and we hope to have the opportunity to work with you soon! BTW- I can also be reached by cel phone at 602.478.9508.

I'll kick this off... [Jun. 8th, 2006|12:16 pm]

Hey you guys and Gals, thank you for joining the group. Please feel free to pass the info on to other LJ users so we can get the group to a decent size relatively quickly.

The idea of the group is simple, people can post if they need volunteers, want to volunteer, or have information that might be interesting to those involved in Volunteering.

Volunteering subjects can be about anything, I am mostly poetry based, so my posts will be mostly about needing volunteers foir poetry events and such, but the group should feel free to post about candidates in local elections (any party), or local enviromental groups, or what have you.

I just ask that this not be a place to argue the merits of causes, but it is totally cool to report an organization that treats it's volunteers well or not so well.

Thanks again and happy volunteering!
